Gordon & MacPhail - Glenturret 2005 19/096 - Connoisseurs Choice

The Glenturret Distillery, founded in 1763, is one of the oldest active distilleries in Scotland. Located deep in the Grampian Mountain Range, the distillery sits beneath Ben Chonzie and two miles north west of the quaint highland village of Crieff. For over 250 years the whisky has used water from nearby Loch Turret; pure and extremely soft in chracter this water is one of the key ingredients in Glenturret's elegant spirit.

After a quiet beginning to the 20th century the distillery was acquired by James Fairlie in 1957 who completed a full refurbshment of the stills and warehouses, bringing back to life over 200 years of Scottish whisky history. James Fairlie was a whisky enthusiast who intended to create a malt whisky using only traditional distilling methods on The Glenturret's single copper pot still. Incidentently the distillery still operates using only one spirit still and one wash still.

Following subsequent purchases by Remy-Cointreau, Edrington, William Grand and Sons the distillery was most recently purchased in 2018 by a shareholder syndicate led by The Lalique Group.
